The Most Capable Wrangler Ever Made

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe brings plug-in hybrid technology to the iconic off-roader, creating the most powerful and capable Wrangler in history while offering 25 miles of electric range for daily commuting.

Powerful Performance

With 375 horsepower and a massive 470 lb-ft of torque from the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder and electric motors, the Wrangler 4xe is brutally quick. 0-60 mph happens in the mid-5-second range—supercar territory for a body-on-frame SUV.

The 8-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and the immediate torque from the electric motors makes the 4xe feel powerful at any speed. Off-road, the instant electric torque provides exceptional rock-crawling control.

Off-Road Capability Enhanced

The 4xe maintains full Wrangler capability with 30 inches of water fording (the battery is sealed and waterproof), electronic locking differentials, and disconnecting sway bars. The electric motors add precision to low-speed maneuvering on trails.

We tested the Wrangler 4xe on challenging trails, and it conquered everything effortlessly. The electric motor’s instant torque makes navigating obstacles easier than ever.

Electric Range & Efficiency

The 25-mile electric range handles most daily commutes, and plugging in at night means starting each day with a full charge. Around town, the electric-only mode is smooth and silent—a surreal experience in a Wrangler.

When running on gasoline, expect around 19-20 mpg combined, which is reasonable for a brick-shaped off-roader. With regular charging, we averaged 49 MPGe.

Interior & Features

The cabin features Jeep’s latest Uconnect 5 system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. It’s responsive and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Available Alpine audio sounds great even with the top down.

Seating is comfortable for four adults, and the removable doors and roof maintain the classic Wrangler experience. Cargo space is adequate but not class-leading.

Verdict

Rating: 4.6/5

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a remarkable achievement: a plug-in hybrid that enhances rather than compromises the Wrangler experience. It’s expensive, and daily driving dynamics are typical Wrangler (meaning not car-like), but for off-road enthusiasts wanting the latest technology, this is the Wrangler to buy.
